James Hayter struck his 20th league goal of the season last night to claim the three points for the Cherries against Walsall.

The goal moved Hayter up to joint top goal scorer in league one this season, level with Eastwood and Trundle.

More impressive though is that the goal was also his 84th league goal in a Cherries shirt, moving him within 35 of the all time record set by Ted MacDougall.

Speaking to the Daily Echo Hayts said…

‘That’s a nice surprise, I didn’t realise that at all. It’s great to be up there and hopefully I can score a lot more goals for Bournemouth.’

Speaking of earning the three points which practically makes the Cherries safe from the threat of relegation he added…

‘We’re delighted. It was a hard fought win and we were glad to get the right result in the end.
