After two defeats in the opening games of the Premier League the Cherries make the journey back up to the Midlands where they suffered their first defeat this season to West Brom, only this time the opponents are Birmingham City managed by an old player and manager and resident of Sandbanks Harry Redknapp.

We meet in the second round of the EFL Cup (League Cup) which has been rebranded as the Carabao Cup for 2017-18. Birmingham beat Crawley 5-1 at St Andrew`s in the first round.

Harry surprised a number of people by coming out of ‘retirement` and taking up the Birmingham job 173 miles from his home. He joined Birmingham on the 18th April this year on a short contract until the end of the season with the task of keeping Birmingham City in the Championship with three games to go. The first game was away against local neighbours and rivals Aston Villa, Birmingham lost 1-0. The last two games were home to promotion chasing Huddersfield and away at Bristol City. Harry`s side won both games without conceding a goal and he kept Birmingham in the Championship. There are more Bournemouth connections with the back room team at Birmingham, this season Kevin Bond joining Harry again as his right hand man and assistant manager in place of Steve Cotterill, and Paul Groves still first team coach.

This season Harry Redknapp has signed five new players so far, but his most significant signing must be David Stockdale a first team regular in Brighton`s promotion winning season to the Premier League. Stockdale turned down a new contract offer to join Harry`s Birmingham City.

This season Birmingham City have had mixed results in the Championship, with 1 win and 1 draw at home and 2 defeats away. The latest was the 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion.

Birmingham City Team News:

Che Adams who scored a hat-trick in the game against Crawley, has been out of the side with a hamstring injury picked up against Bristol City on the 12th of this month.

Player to watch: Isaac Vassell

Harry saying he is going to make changes, Birmingham recently signed Isaac Vassell a 23- year old pacy striker from Luton Town, he was one of the players that stood out against Burton Albion when he came on for the second half and Harry has said he will start against us.

AFC Bournemouth Team News:

Eddie could give Jermain Defoe some game time to sharpen him up to face Manchester City with Josh King out of sorts at the moment. Simon Francis will probably still be out with his injury. The other injured players are Junior Stanislas and Callum Wilson.

Player to watch: Lewis Cook

With the inevitable changes for this match, we may see Lys Mousset given a start up front with Lewis Cook in midfield both youngsters to watch. If they impress in this game they could be in our starting 11 against Manchester City and inject some life and fresh blood into our side.
