After our victory against Stoke City in the Premier League, the Cherries once more turn their attentions to the League Cup. Our visitors in the 4th round are Middlesbrough who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season. Garry Monk the former Leeds and Swansea manager joined Boro as manager in June this year. In the Championship they have had mixed results and presently sit in mid table.
In the Summer Middlesbrough signed eight new players and seven departed. They paid a record £14 million fee for striker Britt Assombalonga from Nottingham Forest. Cherries fans might remember him from a Tuesday night match against Nottingham Forest that we completely controlled but could only score once, we lost the game in the second half with two goals in quick succession, the first coming from Assombalonga.
Other signings, Ashley Fletcher a striker from West Ham for £6.5 million, midfielders Martin Braithwaite from Toulouse, Jonny Howson Norwich City, Marvin Johnson from Oxford United, all undisclosed fees. Defenders Cyrus Chrisie from Derby County and Ryan Shotton from Birmingham.
A player AFC Bournemouth (AFCB) fans will remember, Darren Randolph the goalkeeper from West Ham for £5 million, better remembered when at his old club Birmingham City.
In the previous rounds of the League Cup (EFL) Boro beat Scunthorpe United 3-0 at home, round three they beat Aston Villa away 0-2. Now in round four they visit Dean Court to face a Cherries 11. In their last league game Middlesbrough lost 0-1 at home to second place Cardiff City. In the league on their travels, Boro have Won 1, Drawn 3 and Lost 2.
AFC Bournemouth Team News:
Eddie talking on the fitness of Josh King (illness) said hopefully his illness was just a bug players pick up and we will have to wait and see how he is. Jermain Defoe (hamstring), will miss the game. Eddie said there will be changes, he wants to give other players who don`t play on a regular basis a chance and also mentioned developing players and give them a chance to play in a major game. He mentioned he made changes for Brighton and the team did well. He didn`t mention Callum Wilson by name, but wouldn`t be surprised if he started after being an unused sub on Saturday.
Player to watch: Callum Wilson
Callum Wilson after playing a couple of games for the Under 21`s team and scoring a brace and a hat-trick, be good if he could add some goalscoring power up front, which so far has been missing this season.
Middlesbrough Team News:
No new injury news reported from the side that lost at home against Cardiff City.
Player to watch: Britt Assombalonga
Britt Assombalonga who was a regular goalscorer for his previous three clubs Nottingham Forest, Peterborough United and Southend United. In 13 league appearances this season he has already scored 6 goals.
