AFC Bournemouth loanee Simon Gillett is looking forward to lining up against his former side.

The Southampton midfielder had a loan spell at Blackpool earlier in the season and impressed so much that they were keen to bring him to the club permanently come January.

Speaking to the Daily Echo Gillett said…

‘I enjoyed my time up there and Blackpool are going well.

‘But this league is very up and down. Anyone can beat anyone – as we showed against Forest when we deservedly beat them. Blackpool have got a really good squad, the manager there has done an excellent job, but Bournemouth are in a similar sort of position to when I went to Blackpool and it could easily be us up there.

‘A little bit of luck at the right time and results will start coming our way. There is not much to choose between the sides.’

Now that he has also impressed in a Cherries shirt, Kevin Bond will want to also keep hold of him once his loan spell ends next month.

So it appears Gillett is a wanted man, but he knows where his allegiance really lies.

‘It’s important that I go back to Southampton and speak to the manager about where they see me going and I will take it from there.

‘I’m a Southampton player first and foremost and I want to try and break into their first team.

‘But I also want to try and play as much first-team football as I can because at this point in my career, it’s about learning the game. I’m pleased that people are ready to give me a chance.’
