AFC Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser has admitted that he didn’t see Aston Villa’s Carles Gil’s wonder goal coming.
The Cherries had travelled to Premier League side Aston Villa for the FA Cup fourth round meeting and had made eight changes to the regular starting eleven.
This had given Ryan Fraser the chance to impress on the left wing and the Scotland Under 21’s international had enjoyed the game battling with Aston Villa and Scotland right back Alan Hutton.
The Cherries had been well in the game until the home side had taken the lead through a world class effort from Gil.
Fraser told afcb.co.uk…
“It`s one of those where you need to hold your hands up and say: ‘Great goal’, But we really didn`t see it coming to be honest. It`s just what Premier League clubs do – they take one chance and then you`re on the back foot.
“I think if we go up this season, we`ve shown we can compete.
“Aston Villa didn`t dominate us, Liverpool didn`t dominate us and we have always been in the games.
“We`ve given ourselves a really good chance and we should take confidence from that. We can compete with teams like those.”
