AFC Bournemouth defender Simon Francis hopes the Cherries team spirit will help the squad build on their maiden season in the Premier League.
The Cherries have successfully climbed through the football pyramid in English football, winning promotion from League Two in 2010, League One in 2013 and the Championship in 2015.
That third promotion won AFC Bournemouth a place in the top flight for the first time in the clubs history and successfully maintaining that status was a huge achievement for Eddie Howe’s side.
Francis, who featured both at his familiar role of right back and as cover at centre back believes the team spirit was key to AFC Bournemouth avoiding relegation.
Francis told afcb.co.uk…
‘…A lot of the lads played in League One, the Championship and I can’t think of too many teams that have done that kind of thing – been promoted then put out a similar kind of team in the Premier League…’
‘…I think if you look at Leicester and what they’ve done this season, everyone is saying a lot of the reason they achieved what they did is because of the team spirit and their unity as a team, not necessarily their talent on the pitch,
‘You look at the squads they have competed against, the Tottenham’s and Man City’s. That’s how important it is to have a good team spirit and I think that was one of the strengths of our season too.
‘And we don’t want to stop here, we want to build on that and try and climb up the league next season.’
