AFC Bournemouth captain Simon Francis does not believe the suspension of Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante improves the Cherries chances against Chelsea.

The Cherries travel to London on Boxing Day.

Last season, AFC Bournemouth beat the then reigning Premier League champions 1-0 due to a late Glenn Murray winner at Stamford Bridge.

But a victory for the Cherries this time around would arguably be a bigger upset, due to the form of the Premier League leaders under new manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea are currently on a run of eleven consecutive victories, but against AFC Bournemouth they are without N’Golo Kante, who has proved key in both Chelsea’s title challenge this season and Leicester City’s title win last season.

Chelsea will also be without Diego Costa, who has scored 16 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions thus far this season.

Francis told the Daily Echo

‘Costa has been huge for them this season given the goals he has chipped in with and I’d say he’s the best striker in the Premier League.

‘Kante has been the buy of the season. Whoever got him in the summer was going to see a big difference in their team and he’s certainly provided that since Chelsea have hit form.

‘He’s been excellent and that’s two key players they are missing. Having said that, they have a brilliant squad. They have strength in depth and whoever they bring in is going to be a top player.

‘We’re certainly not thinking that because Costa and Kante are out that we’ve got a much better chance…’

‘I’m thinking……hmmm, Chelsea on a long winning streak, key goalscorer out, slight upset to the system and rhythm, AFCB roll into town on an all-time high, game is a free punch for us, memories still fresh of our epic victory there last year…..I’m thinking we can win this !Join the conversation here.
