AFC Bournemouth full back Simon Francis fully expected to see Cherries manager Eddie Howe bring in some competition for the right back birth during the January transfer window.
The Cherries full back is currently on a run of 64 consecutive appearances, a statistic that has helped him to 112 appearances for the Cherries in 115 available matches since joining the club in November 2011.
Francis has played every single minute of those 112 appearances, but Francis now expects to fight for his first team place following the arrival of Adam Smith from Tottenham.
Francis told afcb.co.uk…
“It`s competition. If anything I`m surprised it hasn`t happened sooner really.
“It`s been a year and a half and there hasn`t really been another natural right-back at the club…
“…With Smithy coming in, it is just competition for places and it`s going to improve our squad.
“I`ve been pleased with the number of games I`ve played, obviously every one so far, and all you can ask for especially as a defender is that you carry on going…’
