AFC Bournemouth captain Simon Francis has thus far been delighted with his sides defensive performances during the current Premier League campaign.
Last season, AFC Bournemouth conceded 67 times with Aston Villa who finished bottom of the Premier League the only side to concede more.
After 14 games of the 2015/16 season, AFC Bournemouth had kept just one clean sheet (September 2015, 2-0 victory over Sunderland) and had conceded 30 times.
The season, the Cherries have already kept four clean sheets (West Brom, Everton, Tottenham, Stoke) and have conceded 22.
That has helped towards an improved points haul, with 18 points this season in comparison to just 10 at this stage in the last campaign.
Francis told the Daily Echo…
‘…I think we`re one of the best teams in the league at defending set-pieces – in terms of goals conceded from them – and that`s a huge plus for us.
‘It’s especially pleasing for the manager, having been a defender himself, and Jason Tindall as well. As a defender, when you keep a clean sheet it`s almost as good as getting a win. If we can win games one or two nil that`s massive for us.
‘Looking back on last season, there was a real incentive to do something about it.
‘The number of clean sheets and goals we let in was something we wanted to improve. And so far we`ve done that.’
