The script seemingly was written for AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher.

Since he returned to Dean Court, the man, the legend, was just destined to save the Cherries.

With the Cherries 1-0 down at half time, AFC Bournemouth battled back to 1-1 shortly after the break with a goal from Liam Feeney and then the moment came…

Steve Fletcher picks up the winner, in the final home game of the season, his 100th League goal and the goal which saves the Cherries from relegation out of the Football League.

Fletch told the Daily Echo

‘…the ball fell to me in the box – I think everyone was appealing for a penalty – I chested it down, then I smashed it through a crowd of players and when I saw it go in, I didn’t know what I was doing celebrating. I can’t even remember it.’

‘That was for my family, for all I’ve been through and for 17 years at the club I love.

‘It is right up there with the Millennium Stadium play-off win.’
