AFC Bournemouth second choice goalkeeper Adam Federici has signed a new three year contract at Dean Court.

The 31 year old Australian made the move to England with Reading in September 2005 and made 245 appearances for the club, including over 20 appearances in the Premier League.

He was named Reading’s player of the season for 2014/15 after Reading reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup but opted against signing a new extended contract at Reading.

Instead decided to make the move to the south coast to sign a three year contract with AFC Bournemouth.

During his first season with the Cherries he was unable to dislodge Artur Boruc as the clubs first choice ‘keeper and he was limited to just 6 Premier League starts.

His new contract extends his stay in Dorset for an addition 12 months until the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Federici told afcb.co.uk

‘I`m delighted to have signed a new contact, I`ve worked hard this year to keep improving and the last year has been great. I`ve been settling in and getting to know the lads so I`m really looking forward to next year now.

‘The manager played a big part in me signing, the coaching staff and the way we play football are factors too. I feel I suit the team and look forward to playing more this season, I`m working really hard towards that.

‘I`ve never seen myself as a number two goalkeeper. I need to get rid of that tag and push on, I want to improve and play more next season – hopefully I can achieve that.’

You would expect him to say that but seems strange that we signed him on a three year contract a year ago and now he’s signed another extending the potential stay by twelve months but he was already under contract for the next two.

Feels like the start of things going on behind the scenes though.

Congrats to Adam and let’s hope he turns the doubters opinions to dust.
