AFC Bournemouth second choice goalkeeper Adam Federici is determined to dislodge Cherries number 1 Artur Boruc this season.

The 31 year old Australian made the move to England with Reading in September 2005 and made 245 appearances for the club, including over 20 appearances in the Premier League.

He was named Reading’s player of the season for 2014/15 after Reading reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup but opted against signing a new extended contract at Reading.

Instead Federici decided to make the move to the south coast to sign a three year contract with AFC Bournemouth.

During his first season with the Cherries he was unable to beat Artur Boruc as the clubs first choice ‘keeper and he was limited to just 6 Premier League starts.

Despite his lack of first team appearances he was rewarded over the summer with a new contract, extending his stay in Dorset for an addition 12 months until the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Federici told the Daily Echo

‘…I will just keep working hard and, hopefully, will get my chance. If it is not at the start of the season then I will wait for my time and try to push on.

“I don`t want to dwell on it too much but it was a little frustrating because it was going so well at the time. Hopefully, I will get my chance again and this time I won`t be as unfortunate as I was…”

“…I didn`t come here to be a number two and have always said that. I want to play and my views on that haven`t changed.

“It is frustrating sometimes but I work my socks off in training and, hopefully, it will come good eventually.”

seems strange that we signed him on a three year contract a year ago and now he’s signed another extending the potential stay by twelve months but he was already under contract for the next two.

Feels like the start of things going on behind the scenes though.

Congrats to Adam and let’s hope he turns the doubters opinions to dust.
