Eddie Howe spoke about football betting and gambling among footballers in general, when asked about the subject in the wake of Joey Barton`s ban.

The Burnley midfielder was this week handed an 18-month suspension from all football activities by the Football Association for betting on football matches.

Howe was asked during his pre-match press conference on Cherries Player if football has a problem with gambling.

“I don`t believe so, no. There are very few isolated incidents now.” said the Cherries manager.
“The rules are very clear now regarding the players, and we express that to them on a consistent basis.”

He went on to say how things have changed in recent years.
“When I was playing, it was rarely talked about from management to players, but in this day and age, it`s very different” he said.

Howe was also asked about speculation regarding Chelsea pair Nathan Ake and Asmir Begovic being on Cherries` radar in the summer transfer window.

“As usual, with me, you`ll get no comment on transfer speculation.” He said
“We`ve got really important games to focus on. I`ll only speak about the players we have here.”

Howe confirmed that midfielder Dan Gosling would miss today`s game at Sunderland with a calf injury.
