AFC Bournemouth utility player Stephen Purches has been named as the Cherries new development coach.
Former AFC Bournemouth development coach Chris Hargreaves will now work alongside management duo Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall with the first team squad and is also expected to continue a role with the Cherries development squad as Purches splits his time between coaching and playing.
Purches, who holds the UEFA A coaching licence has gained previous coaching experience working with the AFC Bournemouth youth set up as well as working through a rehabilitation programme since breaking his leg in February 2012.
Purches meanwhile is aiming to return to full fitness and the pitch in time for his testimonial against West Ham United on 13th July.
Purches told the Daily Echo…
“I have been given the opportunity to take on the development squad, as well as still combining it with the playing side of things.
“It will give me an opportunity to develop myself and develop how I am going to coach, with all the good coaches around me at the club as well as putting my own twist on it. I can also keep myself fit as I go, so I have got the best of both worlds in that respect.
“Coaching is the closest you can get to playing. While I have been injured and out for a long time, I have been keeping my coaching badges up to date. I have also been getting the experience of being out there coaching because, unless you are doing it, you don`t learn.
