AFC Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe believes that the goals will come during his second spell at the club.

Defoe made the move to the south coast on a free transfer from Sunderland following their relegation from the Premier League.

Whilst Sunderland may have struggled in the top flight during his two full seasons at the club, Defoe scored 30 goals in 70 appearances across 5,873 minutes of football (a goal every 196 minutes).

For the Cherries he has thus far made 8 appearances, totalling 452 minutes, with the winner against Brighton & Hove Albion his only goal to-date.

Defoe told the Daily Echo

“If I was playing games and I wasn`t getting any chances, I would be thinking it was strange because, in my whole career, I have played in games where I get chances.

“You just keep getting in positions, the same positions to score, and then, before you know it, you play a game and score a hat-trick…

‘…”When you have done something so many times over the years, it`s just a matter of time…’

“…Against Arsenal I hit the post, against Leicester I hit the crossbar. On another day they would hit the inside of the post and go in, or fall back to me and I would tap it in.”

Can’t see Defoe starting any England games, unless he nets a few to us. Just an impact sub now.Join the conversation here.
