AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings has made his expected departure from Dean Court on transfer deadline day.
The 25-year old was already behind Steve Cook, Nathan Ake and Simon Francis at centre back and even dropped below left back Charlie Daniels out of position in recent weeks.
Following the £12million signing of Chris Mepham from Brentford, Mings’ opportunities to add to his 17 Premier League appearances since signing for the club in June 2015 from Ipswich Town looked limited.
Despite struggles with both knee and back injuries, previous reports had stated that Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, Derby County and Nottingham Forest had all been linked with interest in January, with West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa the apparent favourites.

On Wednesday afternoon, some reports appeared to indicate that Nottingham Forest could well win the chase, but by Thursday morning there was only one clear destination and that was Aston Villa.

Whilst the loan fee isn’t clear. Sky Sports believe Aston Villa have negotiated one clause…
The deal includes a “matching option” clause which means Villa will be able to match any offer that comes in to buy him in the summer.

Mings told Aston Villa’s official website…
“I think it’s an exciting time to be at this club. I spoke to the gaffer and the chance to work with him and his coaching staff was a big factor. Where the club is and what they’re trying to do was a massive draw for me to come and be part. It seemed like a great fit for the club and for myself. Hopefully, we can both have success.
The move means he is reunited with former AFC Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail he added…
“…Tommy (Elphick) was a really calming influence for me. I got injured on my debut for Bournemouth and he came round to my house with the manager to check I was okay.
“He’s a good bloke and someone I’m looking forward to seeing again.”

Really good news. Ty needs an opportunity to prove his fitness and ability to stay fit. So glad we are not selling him, not even giving Villa the option. Brilliant ! I’m sure if he proves himself to be normally robust at Villa, he can be part of AFCBs plans next season. Seems as though Eddie has lost confidence in Ty’s durability, which is understandable. Don’t think his ability has ever been in doubt.
