AFC Bournemouth left back Charlie Daniels was left frustrated following AFC Bournemouth’s opening day defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

The Cherries have now lost all three of their opening day fixtures since promotion to the top flight of English football, losing to Aston Villa in 2015, Manchester United in 2016 and now West Brom.

The moment which was enough to secure all three points came seven minutes before the half time break.

Ahmed Hegazi headed past Asmir Begovic at the back post, with the Cherries defence struggling to keep close to the defender.

AFC Bournemouth also struggled to create chances, despite boasting over 70% of the possession throughout the 90minutes.

Daniels told afcb.co.uk

“It was very frustrating, We knew what their game plan was going to be and we feel we didn`t execute ours to the best of our ability.

“We had a lot of possession but didn`t create as many chances as we wanted and to get done on a set-piece was very frustrating.”

“The actual shots they had on goal, I don`t think there were too many, It was just one lapse in concentration for the set-piece that cost us at least a point.

“Defensively we were okay but going forwards and creating was our biggest downfall, that`s something that we need to work on this week coming up to a home game so that we play the way Bournemouth should play.”

Without wanting to be over critical, it was a frustrating performance that highlighted some of our weaknesses and reaffirmed some of our beliefs.

The first mention would have to go with regard to the team selection.

Pulis would have been rubbing his hands with glee when he saw Pugh and Francis starting.

Easy weaknesses exposed down both flanks from the offset.

Francis looked slow and showing his age unfortunately.

Pugh, lucky to play in the under 23’s

Surman Arter Pugh and Fraser in the middle, against a physical WBA side.

Highlights we needed to stiffen up in the middle over the summer.

Sideways, sideways, sideways football.

So frustrating.

Thinking positively, Begovic did well, AKe, man of the match.

Dawson incident was bad, and should perhaps been a penalty, but we didn’t create so need to move on.

think the result will make EH mad and spur us on to team changes and a better game plan against the likes of WBA.
