AFC Bournemouth left back Charlie Daniels believes the Cherries focus on fitness will see his career continue well into his 30’s.

AFC Bournemouth signed left back Charlie Daniels from League One side Leyton Orient on 24th November 2011.

Daniels joined the Cherries initially on loan, but with a view to a permanent signing in January 2012 once the transfer window had opened.

Daniels was in the final year of his contract and was going to be allowed to leave Orient on a free transfer, so Orient accepted a reported fee of around £200,000 with the Cherries.

202 appearances later and Daniels has played a key role in AFC Bournemouth’s rise up the Football League, winning promotion from League One in 2013, winning the Championship in 2015 and earning AFC Bournemouth their highest ever position in their history finishing 9th in the Premier League last season.

Now 30, the left back believes he still has many years of his career remaining.

Daniels told the Daily Echo

‘I don’t feel 30, I feel 25. I still feel I’ve got many more years ahead of me yet.

‘It’s definitely down to working on the fitness side of things with people at the club. That has helped me and I’m feeling the benefits.

‘I feel sure I have a good few years left in me yet. I could do four or five more quite comfortably and, potentially, more than that. I feel I have at least five years left in me.

‘I think people take it for granted when they stop too suddenly and I just want to play for as long as I physically can, or until I don’t like it any more, which I don’t think will happen.’

‘How will we line up against West Brom?

Will Eddie throw in any of the new signings into the team, or stay loyal as he usually does with the players that brought us success last season?

Will we start 2 up top or go five in midfield?

On the opening day v Man U last season, Eddie put in 3 new signings – Lewis Cook, Ibe and King.

Here’s how I think we may line up:

———————- Boruc —————–

— A.Smith — Francis — Cook — Daniels

— Stanislas — Surman — Arter —- Fraser

——————- King — Afobe ———–

Bench: Begovic, Ake, Defoe, Mings, L.Cook, Pugh, Gosling…

Which leaves Gradel, Callum Wilson, Ibe, Mousset, Allsop, Federici, Brad Smith, Cargill, Mahoney, Hyndman, Wiggins and Grabban, all without a spot on the bench… strength in depth.’
