Cook: Something needs to change

AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has criticised his side for sub-consciously taking their foot off the gas in recent weeks.

At the turn of the calendar year, the Cherries enjoyed a run of form which saw them lose just twice in twelve games.

In that period, AFC Bournemouth won five times, including taking all three points at home to Arsenal and away to Chelsea.

20 points earned at an average of 1.67 points per game.

But following this sequence of results, a sequence which all but secured the Cherries their Premier League status for a fourth consecutive campaign, AFC Bournemouth have gone five games without a win, losing their last three in succession.

The last game was the embarrassing defeat by local neighbours Southampton, which has received stinging criticism from some sections of the AFC Bournemouth support.

Cook told the Daily Echo

“…We need a win by any means necessary, otherwise we are going to be relying on other teams which isn’t a situation we thought we would be in with two games remaining.

“Maybe sub-consciously we have taken our foot off the gas individually. Something has happened because we haven’t performed well for a while now…”

“…Something needs to change. We are not helping out each other on the pitch and are getting punished for it.”

Your say…

I wouldn’t go as far as ‘furious’… Just ‘really disappointed’ would be ample for me.

Like I’ve said, I don’t actually blame the players in the way some on here do, saying they couldn’t care less etc. etc. For me, it’s more about ability or lack of, and Saturday’s performance was capped off a terrible few weeks, highlighting that we have too many that have run their course as PL starters. That’s not an overreaction either, it’s an undeniable fact…

Anyone that questions our form of late… Just take a look at the BBC Lg table, there isn’t much in the way of green ‘W’ boxes next to our name…
