AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook believes that there should be a statue of Cherries manager Eddie Howe in Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe became the first manager in the football clubs history to win promotion to the top flight of English football.

It was also the clubs third promotion in five years, lifting the club from the fourth tier to the first.

Cook told the Daily Echo

“He`s an unbelievable manager and I can`t speak highly enough of him. I think he deserves a statue somewhere in Bournemouth.

“Even when he gave his team talk at Charlton when we had effectively already gone up, you could see in the lads` eyes how much they wanted to win.

“Every time we talk about him we get goosebumps because he means that much to the lads, the club and the fans.

“I don`t know where he gets his passion from, but what a man.

Meanwhile Howe could be in line to be awarded the honour of being made a Freeman of Bournemouth.

Following clinching the Championship title there have been calls for Eddie Howe to be recognised for his achievements.

Former AFC Bournemouth boss Harry Redknapp said on Sky Sports following the win over Bolton that Howe should be made ‘Lord Mayor of Bournemouth or something’, whilst former mayor’s escort Fred Curtis has called for Howe to be made a freeman of Bournemouth.

Cllr Phil Stanley-Watts also intends to ‘bring up the idea of making Howe a freeman of the borough.’ according to the Daily Echo.

Chief executive of Bournemouth council Tony Williams said in a statement published in the Daily Echo following the clubs beach parade…

‘All decisions on awarding individuals a Freeman of the Borough are made by full council, following a recommendation by the council group leaders.

‘In the light of the outstanding achievement of AFC Bournemouth I will ensure that the issue is brought to the attention of the new council when it reconvenes in May.’
