AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook believes the Cherries dramatic comeback victory over Liverpool is the greatest result in the clubs history.
During the Cherries maiden season in the top flight of English football, the two stand-out results of the season had been the 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge against defending Premier League champions Chelsea and the 2-1 victory at home to Manchester United.
Neither side at the time were at the peak of their recent successes however, so it could be argued that a victory over Liverpool, currently third in the Premier League and many pundits selection to win the title is the biggest result in AFC Bournemouth’s short Premier League history.
Cook told the Daily Echo…
‘It goes down as probably the best result – the best day – in the club`s history, by a country mile.
‘Especially against a side like Liverpool. We`ve never beaten them, never come close to beating them. It`s definitely the best result I`ve ever been involved in.’
‘I was very emotional, I think I`m an emotional guy anyway. I was just delighted to score, but when I had scored and was running back I was just hoping we were going to nick the draw.
‘Never in my wildest dreams did I think we`d win it. To get the fourth goal, you want to have those feelings and celebrations. It was crazy.
‘Goal scoring centre back…
Can anyone genuinely name a CB in world football that scores goals of the calibre of Steve Cook? They’re just insane for a central defender. – Join the conversation here.
