AFC Bournemouth’s youth team clinched the Youth Alliance South West league championship with victory over Newport County.

Last month the youth team secured promotion with two games remaining in the Football League Youth Alliance South West division, securing promotion to the Merit League.

The Merit League is a division that comprises of the top five teams in the south west section and the top seven in the south east section.

With the South West wrapped up attention now turns to the new challenge of the Merit League.

AFC Bournemouth youth team manager Carl Fletcher told afcb.co.uk

“It is nice that we have won the first part of this league, but it is important that the players understand that we need to keep our winning mentality, I think we have only lost two league games this season out of 18. It is a credit to the lads that they continued to keep grinding results out in tough conditions.

“It will be a real test for us coming up against the London sides (in the Merit League), who are very physical, aggressive and may have more quality.

“I am really looking forward to the next part of the league – it will be a hard challenge for us.”
