AFC Bournemouth have reportedly missed out on signing a promising youngster, as he has opted to sign a new contract with Barcelona’s B side.

According to reports in Catalan newspaper Mundo, AFC Bournemouth had “held several meetings” with 18-year-old midfielder Ramón Rodríguez Jiménez, commonly known as Monchu’s representatives and were believed to be “close to reaching an agreement”.

However, after securing the services of Javier García Pimienta following their relegation from Spain’s second tier, several players are now set to commit their future to the side.

That includes Monchu who has…

“already rejected an offer from Bournemouth” as he wants to extend his stay at Barcelona by signing a new contract.

Meanwhile, former AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe could be set for a quick departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Afobe left the Cherries at the start of this month as the newly promoted side took up their option to sign the forward on a permanent basis.

It has been reported that fees during his six-month loan spell with the then Championship club, plus the transfer fee combined to a total of around £12.5million.

If Afobe is immediately sold, with Stoke City reportedly interested, Wolves are looking to virtually break even on their instant sale of Afobe.

Amid all the rumour and speculation…

…I wonder when we will actually have news/sight of our first signing.

More recently Eddie has been able to get much of his transfer business done early so, on that basis, I thought we might have someone already in place by now. There’s plenty of time of course and I’m sure there’s a lot of activity going on behind the scenes, but it would be good to see the first one over the line given some clubs around us have been very active. –  Join the conversation, click here.
