AFC Bournemouth and Leeds United have agreed a season-long loan deal with an option for a permanent transfer for 21-year-old defender Leif Davis.

The Cherries made the move quickly after the announcement that Diego Rico had left the Cherries to join Spanish side Real Sociedad.

The former Morecambe youngster made 2 Premier League appearances for Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United last season, coming on for the final 13 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City and then an 18-minute cameo in a 6-2 defeat to Manchester United.

His only 90 minute appearances last season came against Hull City in the EFL Cup and for Leeds Under-23 against Barrow in the Football League Trophy.

Clearly keen for some regular first-team football, Davis, who can play at left-back and centre-back was delighted to make the move to the south coast.

After being unveiled as the Cherries latest signing, Davis told afcb.co.uk

“I’m absolutely delighted, when I got told the club was interested I spoke to my agent and said I’d be more than happy to come down.

“Now I’m down here I’m delighted to be here and I want to try and help the club get back to the Premier League because that’s where they belong.

“The stadium’s beautiful, I can’t wait to see all the fans in.”

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake also speaking to afcb.co.uk added…

“We are delighted to bring Leif to the club as he is very highly regarded at Leeds.

“He is a young player with a great deal of potential who has already experienced playing in the Premier League and Championship.

“Leif will certainly bolster our defensive resources and add to what is shaping up to be a very exciting and talented squad.

Where does this leave Lloyd Kelly? I’m not familiar with how Scott Parker sets up, would Kelly slot in on the left Centre Back position next to Steve Cook or is Davis better suited at Centre Back than Left Back? – Join the conversation, click here.
