AFC Bournemouth are set to sign Blackburn Rovers winger Connor Mahoney.
According to Nottingham Post, the 20 year winger who is out of contract at Ewood Park had been set to make a move to Nottingham Forest.
Mahoney had reportedly already had a medical and agreed personal terms with the Championship side, however due to Mahoney’s age the clubs would need to agree a compensation fee and Nottingham Forest could not agree a fee with Blackburn Rovers.
This had apparently left the window open for AFC Bournemouth to make their move and according to the report…
‘Mahoney is understood to have completed a medical and agreed personal terms with Eddie Howe’s side, and an announcement now appears imminent.’
Mahoney made his Football League debut for Accrington Stanley in August 2013 and made 6 appearances before joining Blackburn Rovers less than five months later.
He made 24 appearances for Blackburn Rovers, with all but 3 of those appearances coming during the 2016/17 campaign, including 3 appearances for Blackburn Rovers Under 23’s in the Football League Trophy.
Seems more likely that we’ll sign him then loan him our to a Championship club. He may feel that his performances there last season have shown he can compete at that level and, mindful of the progression Ryan Fraser made, feel that there is a path to a PL first team he can follow here.
I’ve never seen him play so couldn’t comment on that last part but if he is that hot a property then I’d imagine we’ll get a few offers from clubs wanting to give him gametime. – Join the conversation here.
