AFC Bournemouth are yet to sign any new players this summer.

The Cherries main acquisitions of Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake from Chelsea, for a combined fee of around £30million and the free transfer signing of Jermain Defoe from Sunderland, were all wrapped this time twelve months ago.

This season, the main business AFC Bournemouth have concluded are new contracts for captain Simon Francis and England international Lewis Cook, along with the sale of striker Benik Afobe to Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £10million.

The Sheffield Star have suggested that AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe could have that money earmarked for Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks.

A 20-year-old midfielder, who was a product of the Manchester City academy, Brooks joined Sheffield United in 2014, signing a professional contract just one year later.

He represented England at Under 20’s level before switching allegiance to Wales, playing for their Under 21’s side before making his full international bow.

Last season he made 36 appearances club and country and is considered as one of Sheffield United’s biggest asset.

The Star reported…

AFC Bournemouth have registered their interest by confirming, albeit through an intermediary, that Dean Court’s hierarchy are willing to sanction a £10m plus bid later this summer.

The Cherries, however, may face some competition with the same report adding “the Wales international is being monitored by a number of Premier League clubs” adding that “Brooks’ other admirers, include Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino”.

I’m getting a bit nervous about next season. Whilst I do this every summer I feel other sides have got stronger. Evans to Leicester, Kongolo to Huddersfield. Yes, we have a good squad but we all know where our weaknesses are. Hoping Eddie is picking the right player to fit into the right slot and I’m sure he is. Everyone is a year older, other sides are wiser to what we do, I’m hoping we make the right moves to make sure we finish where we have the past two seasons preferably with a better start so we don’t play catch up.

I honestly think Wolves won’t be in the relegation mix next season as much as I absolutely hate them. In Eddie, I trust though – Join the conversation, click here.
