Back to Premier League football again after the International break and the close of the transfer window. We visit Arsenal who still have Arsene Wenger as their manager after the question will he stay or will he leave/move upstairs at the end of the last season.
The last minute transfer window has been quiet for both clubs as far as players coming in nothing happened. A player going out of Arsenal is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moving to Liverpool for £35 million. Alex Sanchez is still an Arsenal player as he wasn`t available for the proposed transfer to Manchester City unless Arsenal could bring in a suitable replacement which didn`t happen in time.
During the Summer Arsene Wenger brought in two new players, Alexandra Lacazette the French forward from Lyon for an undisclosed fee, but he becomes their record signing with the fee possibly rising to £52 million over the course of his five-year contract. The other player is left-back Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a Bosman free transfer. Amongst the others going the other way are Wojciech Szczesny the goalkeeper joining Juventus for £14 million. Also Gabriel Paulista the defender joining Valencia for a fee believed to be £10 million. Another player is Kieran Gibbs the left-back joining West Brom for £7 million.
Arsenal finished the 2016-17 season winning all their games home and away in May. They won their last five games at home. This season they started with a 4-3 thriller in the home victory against Leicester making it six games unbeaten at home. The other two Premier League matches they have played were away from home where both times they have been beaten. First was a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City and their last game was a 4-0 drubbing by Liverpool.
The Cherries after a poor start this season showed some of their old form in the home game against Manchester City and deserved to get something from the game, it will give them confidence going into the game against Arsenal seeking their first point of the season, after three defeats.
Arsenal Team News:
They should have a strong squad to pick from for this game. Their two new signings came first and second in the club’s first vote this season for Player of the Month for August. Defender Sead Kolasinac came first with 50% of the votes, forward Alexandra Lacazette was runner up with 26% of the vote. Arsene Wenger at his press conference was asked could Jack Wilshere be involved, the answer was Wenger has not decided yet as Wilshere has to work on his fitness, but he is getting better and better.
Player to watch: Alexandra Lacazette
Depending who starts, they have a number of players that come into this category. Up front the new signing Alexandra Lacazette will be one to watch. After the ‘will he or won`t he` leave, Alex Sanchez is still an Arsenal player and in previous games has been a thorn in the side for the Cherries and now all the transfer hype has gone (at least until January) expect him to be a danger again (if he plays). Mesut Ozil when on form will be another. Olivier Giroud will be a danger as well.
AFC Bournemouth Team News:
There are doubts over the fitness of Simon Francis and Nathan Ake, hopefully both players will be available for selection. There have been no reports of injuries to our players who have been away on International duty, so except for Junior Stanislas and Callum Wilson, Eddie Howe should have a fit squad to pick from. The good news for the club this week is Tyrone Mings and Charlie Daniels have signed new long deals.
Player to watch: Jermain Defoe
With his experience and good at taking his chances in front of goal, Jermain Defoe could be an important player for us away from home, along with Josh King who could eventually form an important partnership.
Match Facts & Stats
We have not had a very good record against them, losing every Premier League game on their ground. Last season they beat us 3-1. In the game at Dean Court the Cherries gained their first point against Arsenal which ended in a 3-3 draw after we were 3 up, Simon Francis was dismissed after 82 minutes and Olivier Giroud scored Arsenal`s equaliser in the 2nd minute of injury time. Only cup game we have played was on their ground which they won by 3-0. League games home and away, AFCB draws 1 and lost 3. In all competitions, draws 1 and lost 4.
