Cherries long wait for winger return could be over

AFC Bournemouth could be about to welcome Cherries winger Junior Stanislas back to first-team contention after a long period sidelined through injury.

Stanislas, who recently turned 30, hasn’t featured for the Cherries since April when he suffered a hamstring injury playing against Fulham.

In May he underwent surgery in a bid to cure the problem and was expected to be ruled out for around four months.

However just as he was about to kick on with his rehabilitation programme, he began to suffer from pain in his knee and in September he was once again under the knife, this time on his knee.

Stanislas has had numerous struggles with injuries since his move to Dean Court in 2014.

But despite his lack of football he has scored 18 goals and claimed 12 assists, during his time on the south coast proving his undoubted quality, when fit and available.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo…

“We saw Junior train earlier this week. I don’t want to necessarily say that means he’s back because I think, at the moment, we are taking it very lightly with him.

“It’s one training session, then a period of rest and then another training session. We are going to build up that load.

“He’s still some time away I think from being fit and available to play but it’s a positive step forward.”
