AFC Bournemouth beat Crawley 5-0 at Dean Court in the Football Combination Southern Section this (Tuesday) afternoon.

Cherries reserve team manager Ryan Garry named a strong side for the fixture with Shwan Jalal selected in goal, while Gary Bowles who is currently on loan at Dorchester Town played at right back alongside Stephane Zubar, Shaun Cooper and Paddy Hester at left back.

In midfield, former Athletico Madrid Spanish Under 21 International Jorge Larena from Las Palmas joined Mark Molesley and Shaun MacDonald, while Lyle Taylor supported strikers Michael Symes and Charlie Sheringham from the left flank.

In a highly competitive and entertaining game, the Cherries found the breakthrough after 17 minutes, when a clever back heel from Lyle Taylor set up Charlie Sheringham to beat Michel Kuipers at his near post.

It was the first of three goals from Charlie Sheringham who went on to score another two goals in the second half, while Lyle Taylor and Jorge Larena completed the scoring in the 5-0 win.

Both MacDonald and Molesley came through the 45 minutes appearance well, while Sheringham was lively and impressed with his hat trick.

Garry told

“I thought we played well in quite bad conditions. We played against a very strong Crawley side and we can certainly be happy with the performance.

“I felt we were very disciplined and we had to be. The Crawley front line was one of the strongest in League 2 and I feel our back four did very well against them. When we went forward, we set up well at the back. We looked very good going forward and it is fantastic to watch when the lads play like that…”

“…All in all it was a very good afternoon. For me the most pleasing thing was the attitude the players showed from the start. Five goals scored, a clean sheet and a very good performance.”
