AFC Bournemouth have beaten Swindon Town 8-2 in a friendly.

The Cherries named a strong starting eleven for the match which saw Elliott Ward come through 90 minutes, as well as give Junior Stanislas, Eunan O’Kane, Ryan Fraser and Shaun MacDonald much needed game time following their absences from regular first team football in the Championship.

AFC Bournemouth development squad player Harry Cornick opened the scoring following an assist from Josh Wakefield and after MacDonald had been fouled inside the area, Stanislas stepped up to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

O’Kane and Fraser doubled the lead to make it 4-0 before 30 minutes had been played, however Swindon did pull one back before half time.

Stanislas, Fraser and Cornick all added to the scoresheet before the hour mark, whilst substitute Ali Coulibaly scored the sides eighth with Swindon scoring a late consolation to make it 8-2.

AFC Bournemouth XI: Buchel, Addison, Ward, Harte, Cargill (Kaye 75), Stanislas (Buckley 75), Wakefield (Coulibaly 65), O`Kane, Fraser (Whitfield 62), MacDonald, Cornick.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo

“It was a good game. We have been keen to see a lot of the players who aren`t playing regularly get some games. I think it is important they maintain their fitness and match sharpness and they certainly did that.

“I thought there were some outstanding displays following on from the Rotherham game in the FA Cup when the players really did make a statement to me. They followed that through. Junior Stanislas and Ryan Fraser were both on the scoresheet again with excellent individual performances.

“In midfield, Shaun MacDonald and Eunan O`Kane were terrific and it was good to see Elliott Ward come through another game which is important as he continues his way back.

“As always with these games, attitude is important and Ian Harte certainly led by example with his approach to it so I was very pleased all-round.”
