James Hayter scored his 18th goal of the season for the Cherries yesterday afternoon as Sean O’Driscoll?s side drew 1-1 with table-toppers Southend United.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes, the ball eventually scrambled across the line by Freddy Eastwood, to put the Cherries good work in those opening minutes to waste. Just prior to that, Callum Hart’s cross had just been headed over the bar by Hayter, who could have deservedly given the Cherries the lead in front of the 1,500 traveling support.

Half time saw an enforced change on the Cherries line-up, with midfield dynamo Steven Foley forced off after picking up a knock late in the half. His replacement Stephen Cooke proved to be the right choice, making an important continuations in the second half, non more so than setting up James Hayter to head in at the far post 8 minutes from time from a free kick on the edge of the penalty area.

The point keeps the Cherries in 16th position in the League One table, four points above the drop zone. Bournemouth travel to Scunthorpe next weekend on the back of three good performances and results against Yeovil, Barnsley and now Southend.
