AFC Bournemouth have rejected a transfer offer for Arnaut Danjuma from Spanish side Villarreal.

Under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, Villarreal finished seventh in Spain’s top flight last season. However, they also lifted UEFA’s second-tier cup tournament the UEFA Europa League and thus qualified for the premier tournament the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming 2021/22 season.

Being able to offer players European competition probably holds a lot of sway with players, so the 24-year-old Dutchman could well be interested in swapping life in the second tier of English football, for life in La Liga and the experience of playing in the European Cup.

However, with Danjuma still contracted to Dean Court until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, AFC Bournemouth still hold the power in regards to what kind of transfer fee that they would be holding out for in the event of his departure.

Danjuma made the move to the south coast in August 2019 for a reported £13.7million from Club Brugge, having had previous interest from AC Milan, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

After overcoming injuries throughout his first season with the Cherries, suffering stress fractures in both feet. Danjuma would go on to make just 14 Premier League appearances, including 6 starts and failed to register a single goal or an assist during the coronavirus pandemic hit season, however, Danjuma enjoyed a great individual season to remember the year after in the second tier of English football with 17 goals and 7 assists from 35 appearances.

Domestically he has already been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton and West Ham United and also reported interest from French Ligue 1 champions Lille (who would also offer UEFA Champions League football next season).

But with a reported £20million price tag on his head, no reported offers had been made, until now.

Where will Danjuma be playing in 2021/22?

Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam, who has held long ties with the Cherries has reported that AFC Bournemouth rejected an offer from Villarreal for around £13million.

That offer would seem very low, potentially less than what the Cherries paid just under two years ago and arguably his stock should have risen following a very successful personal campaign last season.

Will Villarreal make a second bid for Danjuma? Only time will tell. But it seems highly unlikely that it will be the first and last offer that the Cherries can expect this summer for Danjuma.

Best to let Arnie go for a decent price, hopefully. He was amazing for us last season and wish he wanted to stay but can’t begrudge him wanting to play in the Premier League. Stopping moves never achieve much. The only issue with £25 million is that Arnie is prone to injuries. I think £20 million would be a very good sale.

I think I could just about stomach selling for around £20 million (£- NOT €!!!).

I think he’s a better player than Benrahma and a little worse than Buendia. So £25-30 million is what I’d be aiming for. £15 million is pitiful. – Join the conversation, click here.
