AFC Bournemouth midfielder Josh Carmichael enjoyed playing in the Cherries friendly 4-1 victory over Bristol Rovers at Dean Court on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cherries development squad member was named as a substitute in Chris Hargreaves squad, but was quickly called upon when Richard Hughes jogged off the pitch after aggravating his hamstring.

Hughes’ injury is not thought to be too serious, but will obviously be a set-back to the veteran midfielder.

Carmichael came on and initially replaced Hughes in midfield, before swapping roles with Lorenzo Davids at left back and then towards the end of the game shifted across to centre back.

Carmichael told afcb.co.uk

“I was told before the game that I`d get about half an hour but then Hughesy got an injury so I had to come on. Even though I played three different positions, I enjoyed it and I`m always happy to do whatever I have to for the team.

“For all of us younger players, it is important to play with the best players you can play with, so that they push you to be even better.

“Obviously everyone wants to get in the first team but at the moment I am enjoying playing and working hard for the development squad. In games like these it`s a good opportunity to show what I can do and hopefully get in the first team again soon.”
