A Game AFCB Can Win

After our away 9-0 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool, the Cherries are back home on Wednesday night against Wolves at 7.30 pm which is live on BT. Seems a strange thing to say after Saturday’s result, but this home game is one for our team to come out fighting in a game Scott Parker and his team need to go all out for 3 points against a side who have lost both away games so far this season. Also needs our fans right behind the team from the start to give them a lift after Saturday’s defeat.

The last time we played Wolves was in the 2019-20 season, their manager was Nuno Espírito Santo. Santo had a good record against Eddie Howe and our club in the four Premier League games we played against Wolves, they beat us three times, with one being a draw. The two games at Dean Court ended in one draw and one defeat. He left Wolves at the end of the Premier League 2020-21 by mutual consent with Wolves finishing in 13th place.

The manager who came in to take the job was Bruno Lage another Portuguese manager who was previously at Benfica. In his first season in charge Wolves finished 10th. So far in the Summer transfer window, Wolves have signed four players. The most expensive and a club record signing saw midfield player Matheus Nunes sign from Sporting Lisbon for £42.2 million. Forward Gonçalo Guides joins for £27.5 million from Valencia. Centre-back Nathan Collins signed from Burnley for £20.5 million. Forward Hwang Hee-chan who had been on loan, has signed a permanent deal of around £14 million from RB Leipzig.

At the start of Lage’s second season his team have drawn two and lost two, his team last season lost their opening three games and won the fourth. This time his team lost their opening fixture away against Leeds United 2-1. The second game was at home at the Molineux Stadium, where their visitors were last season’s Championship winners Fulham, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. The third game was away in London against Spurs, Wolves lost by the only goal of the game.

Their most recent game was home against Newcastle United and they looked very organised in defence and blocked a number of shots from Newcastle United. Wolves were dangerous at times on the break and took the lead in the first half from their best player their captain Ruben Neves with an incredible shot that gave Nick Pope no chance. Late on Newcastle United equalised with another brilliant shot on the volley from Saint-Maximim.

The last time we met Wolves at Dean Court was in November 2019, AFCB lost 1-2. Wolves were 0-2 up by the 31st minute with goals from Moutinho and Jimenez. A few minutes later things got worse when Simon Francis received his second yellow card and was sent off. Steve Cook got a goal back in the second half but with ten men that was how the game ended.

In our home games against Wolves, AFCB have W 2, D 2, L 1.
In all competitions, AFCB have W 6, D 3, L 5.

AFCB Team News
Apart from the injuries we know about, our captain Lloyd Kelly was missing injured for the Liverpool game, but from what Scott Parker said in an interview he hopes he will be available for Wednesday night. Apart from the result on the pitch, we lost Ben Pearson through injury five minutes after coming on as a substitute and according to our manager, it didn’t look good.

AFCB Player To Watch
Dominic Solanke will be an important player for us this season and especially on Wednesday playing at home, he should be in from the start as it seems he came through ok at Anfield. This will also help Kieffer Moore who has been ploughing a lonely furrow up front.

Wolves Team News
No new injuries were reported, took one or two knocks during the game against Newcastle United. According to a report Willy Boly was picked for their squad for Sunday’s game but didn’t turn up.

Wolves Player To Watch
Their captain Ruben Neves, had a very good game in midfield and scored a brilliant goal for his team. Another player that needs to be watched is their number 7 Pedro Neto who actually was out on the left wing most of the time and has a turn of pace. Raul Jimenez has just come back from injury and was Wolves leading scorer last season with 6 goals.

The Referee

Anthony Taylor is in charge of this game.

We had him twice in the 2019-20 season, both games involved red cards being used. First was away at Crystal Palace, Mamadou Sakho was sent off in the 19th minute for a high challenge on Adam Smith. Palace with ten men for most of the match went on to win 1-0.

The second game was home against Aston Villa, Jefferson Lerma was shown red after a second booking for a foul on Jack Grealish in the 51st minute, but the Cherries who had scored two first-half goals went on to win 2-1 after Villa scored a second-half goal.

Your say…

I may incur some wrath saying this, but I really do not like Solanke and Moore playing in the same team.

I just don’t see them producing enough goals in this division to keep us up.

Also, we need a playmaker who will set up and score goals. I am hoping that Rothwell is that player and that he is fit soon.

As an aside, I wonder how many other clubs sign players who then get injured, very quickly. Moore, Rothwell and Fredericks spring quickly to mind for us and I am sure there are others.. – Join the conversation, click here.
