AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is now well known for rotating his squad in both domestic cup competitions.

It began before the Cherries were promoted to the Premier League and has certainly continued since reaching the top flight of English Football, with mixed success.

In the Football League Cup, or the EFL Cup or via its fizzy drink sponsored name, AFC Bournemouth have reached the last eight of the competition in back-to-back campaigns, on both occasions narrowly missing out on a semi-final place with defeat to Chelsea.

Expect Howe to make as many changes as possible. If the player is fit and available and has not played recently, Howe will find a place for them so that they can get minutes under their belt.

That includes the goalkeeper, so Aaron Ramsdale will make way for either veteran shot-stopper Artur Boruc, or Republic of Ireland youngster Mark Travers.

AFC Bournemouth captain Simon Francis made an appearance for the Under 21’s last week following nine months out with a knee injury, he too could be available, alongside summer signing Lloyd Kelly, who could make his first appearance since a £13million move from Bristol City.

Chris Mepham and Jack Simpson seem the obvious candidates for the centre back positions, although Steve Cook could play to continue some stability in the backline.

In midfield and Andrew Surman fresh from his few minutes run out against Southampton is likely to play. With Jefferson Lerma and Philip Billing starting against Southampton, that could see Lewis Cook return to the starting line-up.

Neither Ryan Fraser nor Jordon Ibe have been a regular starters recently, so they could play, however, Gavin Kilkenny and £13.7 million summer signing Danjuma could also offer options on the flanks.

Upfront and with Callum Wilson, Joshua King and Dominic Solanke all playing for the first team in the Premier League in recent weeks, it is less obvious who will be selected for this contest.

Howe could well push either Fraser or Ibe into a more advanced role in a bid to squeeze all of his flair players into the mix.

I guess resting S Cook, Lerma and Billing would make some sense, as well as some of the subs!

Sure that Howe will need to have some back-up on the bench?

…could see the old Howe surprises and Stanislas and Gosling around?

The 3 attacking midfielders could swap positions at various points during the game. Certainly not a bad reserve team – Join the conversation, click here.
