Winners Away To Burnley

After our second disappointing defeat in a row against Derby County in the Championship, our next game is back at Dean Court in the 4th Round of the FA Cup against League 2 side Crawley Town. Their manager is John Yems formerly on the staff at Dean Court. He joined Crawley in December 2019 in his first role as a manager. His assistant is Lee Bradbury, former Cherries manager between 2011 and 2012.

In the FA Cup 1st Round this season, Crawley Town were drawn away at Torquay United in a high scoring game with at one stage Torquay United up 2-0 at half-time and after the game went to extra time were leading 5-3, but Crawley Town fought back to win the game 5-6.

The 2nd Round they beat AFC Wimbledon away 1-2 and in the 3rd Round at home, they beat Premier League side Leeds United with three second-half goals to advance into the 4th Round to meet the Cherries. The winners will be playing away in the 5th Round against Burnley.
The furthest Crawley Town have been in the FA Cup is the 5th Round in 2011-12 when they were beaten by Stoke City.

The only time AFCB have played Crawley Town was in League 1 in the 2012-13 season, the season our club were promoted up into the Championship. In the away game earlier in the season, Crawley won 3-1, the Cherries goal coming from Lee Barnard. Before this game AFCB had won one game out of nine league games, they then lost the next game away at Coventry. Then AFCB had a very good run of results with a twelve game unbeaten run. At Dean Court in December AFCB won 3-0, the goals coming from an own goal and the others from Brett Pitman and Eunan O’Kane to put the Cherries into a play-off place at that time, before they finished in second place behind Doncaster Rovers.

I think JT will be desperate to get a win with a good performance to boost morale and confidence. Reckon he’ll field a stronger than usual team for the cup.

The game against Stoke City was the second time we got to the 5th round, the previous season we played at Old Trafford against the other Red Devils, losing 1 – 0 having beaten Swindon, Derby and Torquay on the way when we were still in the conference – gaining promotion that season into the football league.
