AFC Bournemouth are about to embark on their fifth consecutive top-flight campaign in their history following promotion to the Premier League in 2015.

During those first four seasons in the Premier League the Cherries finished the 2015/16 season in 16th place on 42 points, the 2016/17 campaign in a record place of 9th with 46 points, 2017/18 saw a slight drop to 12th and 44 points but did finish the season as the highest ranked south coast club for the first time in the clubs history, finishing above Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Last season, AFC Bournemouth went into the final day with the chance of beating the 46 point mark, but defeat to Crystal Palace meant that the Cherries finished with 45 points in 14th, maintaining their spot as the best placed south coast club for a second season.

But whilst there is almost a feeling that AFC Bournemouth now needs to break through a glass ceiling in order to continue their meteoric progression, AFC Bournemouth defender Adam Smith told the Daily Echo that the challenge is now is to break into the top eight…

“We have been in the Premier League for four seasons now. We do not want to be one of those teams who are just happy to be in mid-table. If we have a fully fit squad and keep a lot of competition in each position and, maybe, add a few this summer, then hopefully we can challenge for the top seven or top eight.

“You want to keep your best players and hopefully we do and also add some players as well. Hopefully, next season is better for us.”

Your say…
