AFC Bournemouth have smashed their transfer record to sign Brazilian striker Evanilson from Porto.

The Cherries acted swiftly to replace last season’s top goalscorer Dominic Solanke, who has departed the south coast for London, in a £65 million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Which incidently, was also a club record sale.

Evanilson’s deal is officially undisclosed, however, it has been widely reported to be in the region of £40 million. The stated length of the contract hasn’t been reported locally, but on Irish website RTE they have stated it’s a “five-year deal”.

The 24-year-old who made his debut for Brazil earlier this year will wear the number 9 shirt.

Evanilson is a product of Brazilian side Fluminense’s youth system and made his senior debut for the club in January 2018. He bounced around on loan to Šamorín in Slovakia’s second division, a somewhat strange move for a young Brazilian, until you discover that they are a Fluminense feeder club. He also made the move to Tombense in Brazil without making an appearance before returning to Fluminense on loan.

During 2020 he scored 7 goals in 16 league appearances which earned him a move to Porto for €8.8 million.

During his time in Portugal, he 81 goal involvements over 154 appearances, including 60 goals and was part of the side that won the Primeira Liga in 2023 and won the Taça de Portugal three times.

He has also featured for Porto in the UEFA Champions League, where he has already gained experience playing against Premier League sides such as Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, alongside other European sides like Olympiakos, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Royal Antwerp and Shakhtar.

He’s also played in the UEFA Europa League, featuring against Lazio and Lyon.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told afcb.co.uk

“We are delighted to bring someone with an immense pedigree to AFC Bournemouth,

“Evanilson is a hugely sought-after striker and for us to bring him to the club in a record-breaking deal shows our ambition and intent.

“Having scored 25 goals last season, including goals in the Champions League, we feel that his experience and ability despite only being 24 will help us to match our ambitions moving forward.

“It’s well known that we were keen on bringing a striker to the football club and for us to complete this deal so quickly is a testament to our recruitment team.”

The club it seems to have secured their number one target and you can’t ask any more than that.

He was the one I voted for on the other thread.

Now we have a Brazilian striker, looking forward to seeing him play, but as with all foreign players some settle in quicker than others, so we as fans need to be patient.

If ever you needed proof that Bill is serious about us playing in Europe, surely this is it!

I am expecting us to be adding plenty of players with Champions League or at least some form of European football experience in the next few windows.

I wasn’t expecting us to go THIS large on a Dom replacement but I’ll take it !!!
Also, the valuation seems to leave some headroom, should he turn out to be a huge success in the PL, so from a FFP point of view, this is maybe not such a huge risk.

Considering that he’ll need a work permit, I think the first home game would be the earliest that we’ll see him. But he can at least travel and hang out with the squad at the weekend. Hopefully.
