Bournemouth must maximise this period

Heading into the October international window, AFC Bournemouth are ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League table, holding on to fifth place.

Eight games have brought 16 points, with the Cherries 1 point behind Chelsea, 2 behind Tottenham Hotspur and just 3 points behind leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.

It is fair to say however that AFC Bournemouth’s objective for the 2018/19 Premier League campaign is somewhat different to the listed clubs above.

Whilst they target silverware and European qualification, AFC Bournemouth’s first target is to remain in the top flight of English football for a fifth consecutive season and earn the riches that it brings.

After that, it’s targetting maybe a top half finish or ultimately beating previous club records of 9th or points totals of 46 points.

It’s a good platform to start the season, but AFC Bournemouth does have a difficult fixture list ahead.

After games with Southampton and Fulham, the Cherries face Manchester United and Arsenal in November, with Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United (again) to come in December.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told afcb.co.uk

“Wins obviously give you the confidence and belief you need to win really difficult games in the Premier League.

“There’s tough games to come, we need those mental qualities showed (against Watford) to push on and get more results.

“Nothing is a given in this league, we will enjoy where we are but we have to maximise this period.

I was hoping for 19 points by the end of October, but that was certainly at a stretch goal. It is within touching distance already! Even being ultra conservative we could be on 25 points by December 25th but if we could get to 30.I think we can look forward to yet another season in the Premier League! – Join the conversation, click here.
