The Premier League have confirmed that the winter transfer window will open on New Years Day 2020 and run until 11 pm on 31st January 31.

The January transfer window is always a peculiar time for football clubs, with inflated prices and seemingly a lot of speculation but far less actual moves.

Some business does get done and AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is often one of the managers who gets something across the line during that period.

The first, of what is expected to be many rumours, comes via The Sun the national tabloid newspaper believe that AFC Bournemouth are interested in Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney.

The newspaper believes that League One side Peterborough want £13million for the forward, but the report believes that the Cherries and potential rival bidder Burnley are only considering a £9million offer.

The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals and claimed 2 assists in just 17 appearances in the third tier of English football so far this season and is also courting attention from Championship outfits Middlesbrough, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Derby County.

Peterborough paid just £350,000 when they landed him from Newcastle United less than 18 months ago, so are looking at completing a very favourable bit of business if they do sell for a potentially 8 figure fee.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAntony was quoted as saying…

“Toney will break the transfer record for a League One player when he goes. If he goes that. He’ll certainly smash the Posh record.

“We don’t want to lose anyone in January, but you can’t guarantee anything in football.

“If we do lose anyone, they will be replaced.”

Your say…

Hmmmmm, would be a big risk the gap between league 1 and championship is a big one let alone league 1 and the Premier League. Although Jack Stacey looks more than good enough already so who knows!? – Join the conversation, click here.
