There might still be over six months left of the season for the players at AFC Bournemouth, but they`re coming to the end of a very different campaign.
A number of players and coaching staff are today preparing to shave off the face fuzz that they`ve been cultivating since the beginning of November.
Movember is a global event that sees men grow moustaches throughout November to raise funds and awareness for men`s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
Cherries` stars Warren Cummings, Stephen Purches and Steve Fletcher were part of the group who took part and helped a group of loyal supporters raise £680.
Regular updates and photos were posted on the club`s official Facebook page and official website.
AFC Bournemouth club captain Warren Cummings said…
“Quite a few of the lads got involved with the effort and we are proud to have taken part and helped contribute to the total. I would like to thank everyone who has taken part and donated.
“It kept us entertained watching the lads grow moustaches with varying degrees of success, but the most important issue is helping raise awareness.
“A lot of footballers and teams get behind the charity, and I think it`s a real positive that we can use our profile to help.”
Manager Lee Bradbury added…
“I was really pleased to see the lads grouping together and doing something to help Movember.
“It`s a charity that is growing in stature every year and that`s fantastic. We have a squad of young men and we take their health very seriously, so a lot of the lads can relate to it.
“It`s an issue that doesn`t get a great deal of attention, but thankfully that seems to be changing.”
