AFC Bournemouth reportedly had a £1.5million bid for Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray rejected.
The initial report came via the Daily Mail, who suggested that ‘Bournemouth are determined to bolster their attacking options by bringing in a speedy winger in the January transfer window’, having also previously linked the Cherries with a £5million move for Wigan midfielder Callum McManaman.
18 year old winger Demarai Gray came through the youth system at Birmingham and made his Championship debut in October 2013. He has since gone on to make 29 appearances for Birmingham in all competitions.
More recently he has also started to find the net with three of his six career goals coming against Reading in a 6-1 victory.
Gray was the subject of a £500,000 bid from Crystal Palace in the summer, but Birmingham are ‘under no pressure to sell’ and ‘remain determined to keep one of their most promising academy graduates at the club.’
The Birmingham Mail have reported that ‘Gray has 18 months left on his current contract and Blues opened talks about extending that deal by a further two years before he bagged his hat-trick.’
The Birmingham Mail also believe a bid in excess of £3.2 million would be required to begin to tempt Birmingham to sell, with the local newspaper branding the initial £1.5million offer ‘insulting’.
