Aston Villa are now poised, as previously expected, to make a bid to sign AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on a permanent transfer.
The Birmingham Mail believe that the opening bid made to the Cherries could be in the region of £15million.
The report went on to add that it is not clear just how welcome a bid would be from AFC Bournemouth.
“Villa are expected to lodge a formal bid of around £15million for the Bournemouth ace who is keen on fresh start away from the south coast.
“The sticking point at this stage is whether the Cherries are willing to sanction such a deal without a fight.
The 26-year-old joined AFC Bournemouth in 2015 for a then club record fee of £8million from Ipswich Town.
However, within the opening six minutes of his Premier League debut, he suffered a devastating knee injury that sidelined him for a year. It wasn’t until 16 months later he made his second Premier League appearance.
In September 2017 he then suffered a stress fracture to the spine which cost him another 8 months of his career.
Mings made the move on loan from AFC Bournemouth during the January transfer window, after the former left-back come centre-back had featured for just 863 minutes in the Premier League for the Cherries in three-and-a-half years.
He was pivotal in Aston Villa’s promotion via the Championship play-offs, playing 1,590 minutes during his loan spell.
His temporary switch proved somewhat of a bargain for Aston Villa, as the loan fee cost them £2million, but Mings proved to be the catalyst to their promotion push, via the Championship play-offs which have netted them a minimum of £170million and a place back in the top tier of English football.
Tyrone Mings’ performances should have put him back in contention to compete for a place on the south coast alongside Steve Cook, Nathan Ake and new signing Lloyd Kelly.
But reports suggest that Mings would prefer a move away from Dean Court.

What a tangled web. I like Tyrone Mings and would have him in a back 3 tall dominant, strong and a leader. But like wingers, we do seem to collect left-sided defenders and young Lloyd Kelly just added to the list.
If Tyrone has to go, an AFC Bournemouth decision, so be it but once again a good player to one of our competitors in our mini lower half league. I would have applauded him on any return as I do any ex AFCB player.
The recent showman events, possibly to force a transfer, has tarnished my feelings to him as a man. Push for a transfer fine then don’t get the financial payback from the transfer can’t have it both ways. – Join the conversation, click here.
