AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe was pleased to score his first goal since March, but would have preferred all three points against Burnley.
Afobe joined the Cherries from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a then club record fee of around £9million in January 2016.
Afobe scored 3 goals in his first 4 appearances for AFC Bournemouth, but hadn’t scored since the victory over Southampton in March, having had to settle for bit part role in the side.
He ended last season with 4 of his 7 appearances lasting no longer than 45 minutes and so far this season he has made 10 Premier League appearances before Burnley, but all as a substitute and he has featured for just 174 minutes in total.
Against Burnley he was named in the starting line-up, completed the full 90 minutes and scored in the 3-2 defeat.
Afobe told the Daily Echo…
‘…On another day, with a bit more match sharpness, I could have scored a hat-trick. I had a few chances and a disallowed goal, which I thought should have been allowed…’
‘…you hear it a lot, players saying they are happy to have scored but they would rather have the three points – and I`m no different, That`s the honest truth. I`m a forward-thinking player but, more than anything, I`ve always been a team player.
“We wanted to win, for our mental strength and to keep climbing the table. We`re gutted to leave Burnley with nothing.”
Afobe is just beginning to show some of the form of when he first came here… The lad has bundles of potential and could be huge for us… Strength, pace, aerial threat and we all know he’s good in the box… – Join the conversation here.
