AFCB XI against Everton – Who would you choose?

Quite interested to see how we line up for the Everton game, given our current lack of form at the back, with certain key players out of sorts and out injured- but also some others potentially coming back from injury.

Diego Rico seems to have some kind of voodoo magic on his side keeping his Bournemouth career alive; with no sign of Eddie Howe doing (in my opinion) the right thing and giving him a go, all the players that would be in the side ahead of him (Charlie Daniels, Adam Smith and now Chris Mepham) are dropping like flies. As a fan of both Rico and Jack Simpson (who I know many on here don’t rate), I almost have a morbid curiosity in which boo boy Eddie Howe will go for. Will he go to a back 4 and put Rico in, or will he stick with the horrendous back 5 and go for Simpson? Either way its a win-win for the players I like!

It’s quite hard to predict given the lack of concrete injury news; I’d prefer to see a back 4 (hopefully with Smith fit), Lewis Cook back on the bench and a few more bodies in midfield if possible, maybe a front 3 of Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson so there’s a bit more of a link between our strikers and creative players. Unfortunately, we’re not really in a position to drop Fraser, but I think Joshua King could do with a “rest”; although you then lose his pace. Maybe Harry Wilson could have a free role in the centre, to fill the David Brooks shaped hole in our team?

Basically, our problems can be summarised by saying, with all our injuries, we need our best players to be just that because if it all goes wrong in the second half like against Leicester, we don’t have the options to change things.

Your say…

Anxious about this game. Everton are in-and-out but have match winners, notably Richarlison, Sigurdsson and Iwobi. Richarlison can cause havoc on the wings and we’re wobbly at Full Back.

Nothing yet on Adam Smith, so perhaps he’s fit. If so, I’d play him on the left and bring in Jack Stacey at Right Back. In midfield, we need to get Philip Billing further forward with a brief to link with the forwards. So far he’s been too far back – let Jefferson Lerma do that job.

Like others, I’m waiting for a performance from Fraser. Sunday would be the occasion – we need some inspiration. – Join the conversation, click here.
