AFCB v Norwich City – Highlights & Reaction

|

AFC Bournemouth returned to Dean Court for Championship football against Norwich City on Sunday. The game had previously been arranged for the Friday night, but had to be moved due to the Cherries participation in the League Cup against Manchester City.

AFC Bournemouth manager Jason Tindall made numerous changes to his starting line-up, the headline selections being a return of Asmir Begovic indicating that he is clearly Tindall’s first choice goalkeeping for the new 2020/21 campaign. Tindall also made the change to a three-man midfield with Lewis Cook dropping into his familiar deeper role with Jefferson Lerma and Philip Billing playing in a more advanced position.

The goal of the game came from Danjuma, earning all three points for the Cherries after the match Tindall told Sky Sports

“It was a lovely goal from Arnie. He’s that type of player who can produce a goal from nothing.

“I think it’s really important to get off to a good start, especially when you’re a team that’s just got relegated from the Premier League and you’re a little bit down – so to beat one of our rivals is fantastic.

From my perspective, we did very well but Norwich screwed up in not creating gilt-edged chances. They had numerous situations in which they should have done but either got the final ball wrong or were stopped by Steve Cook (usually). So it was good but the win came about not only because of our play but also because of Norwich’s failings.

In the same way you sometimes have to acknowledge when an opponent has done well and there’s nothing you could have done about it there are times you can say the other team messed up.

Your say…

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our first clean sheet comes with the stiffest looking formation. Had we just put the icing on the cake with the 2nd and perhaps even 3rd goals when they should have come, you’d be saying it was tactically perfect from JT. As it was we were clinging on. Will be interesting to see what JT does on Friday. – Join the conversation, click here.
