AFC Bournemouth have reportedly denied interest in one of the midfielders that shone at the recent World Cup in Russia.

But rather than it being Colombia international Jefferson Lerma, who has been linked with a move to the south coast since June, this report was actually linking AFC Bournemouth with a summer transfer window move for Sweden midfielder Viktor Claesson.

The 26-year-old currently plays for Kuban Krasnodar in Russia, where he scored 10 goals and claimed 8 assists in just 30 games last season.

His side went on to surprise many in Russia’s top flight, finishing just six points behind champions Lokomotiv Moscow, with Claesson voted player of the season.

According to reports in Russia, AFC Bournemouth were set to make a €10million offer.

Discussing the speculation regarding his future, Claesson said…

“I know there are some clubs that have been interested but it’s far between interest and a bid so I focus on a new season. I can not float away elsewhere before I even get a bid”

However, according to British tabloid The Sun, AFC Bournemouth have denied that they are interested in Claesson.

Despite reports in Expressen claiming that Eddie Howe is seeking to add the midfielder to his squad, the Cherries have denied any interest.

That in itself would probably be more of a development than a link with another player, as the Cherries do not tend to comment on players who they are or are not interested in.
