Shaun Maher could be close to a return after a niggling injury has left him on the sidelines for the best part of 7 months.

The Irishman has suffered a heel injury which developed into plantar fasciitis which is the inflammation of the tough tissue which supports the arch of the foot.

Speaking to the Daily Echo before the game on Saturday Maher said…

‘It was something that came on bit by bit. I got it from constant running on hard pitches during the summer and I was wearing trainers then. It’s something that marathon runners suffer with and it’s had me climbing the walls.

‘It wasn’t too bad to start with and although I could feel it first thing in the morning, by the time it came to train, it felt okay. But it started to get worse and worse until it became chronic.’
