Ryan Allsop has expressed his fortune as he looks to embark on his debut season in The Championship.

The young Cherries stopper was released by Millwall at the end of the 2011/12 season and having previously been at West Brom, English offers weren’t materialising any longer.

However, after a summer in Iceland, he was offered a trial by Leyton Orient who subsequently offered him a 6-month contract. After making the most of his opportunity, The Cherries came calling and it wasn’t long before the Brummie dislodged David James and Shwan Jalal to become the club’s number 1.

Therefore, you can understand how grateful he is to be given a chance to show his talents in The Championship. He told afcb.co.uk:

‘It`s nice to be settled during the close season and know what`s going on and where I stand – it`s nice to have that security. Twelve months ago I was technically a player in Iceland and without an English club before I got the trial at Orient and fortunately I did well from there.’

But he won’t get ahead of himself and he knows there will be a step up in quality and he is likely to be tested more frequently this season:

‘I`m expecting it to be a lot tougher and a lot quicker, with better players so the quality of finishing and delivery will be better too. Personally, there are lots of things I can still improve on. My all round game can be improved because obviously I am still young and I`m still learning, so I`m looking forward to cracking on in the new season and carrying on learning from Mossy and the other keepers.’

With both Jalal and Daryll Flahaven still at the club, the 20 year-old is aware that’s three individuals who have been in possession of the shirt regularly within the past three seasons, which ensures he must produce a high standard if he wants to keep his place in the team:

‘I`m always fighting for the jersey with the quality of the keepers we have got at the club. Flav (Darryl Flahavan) and Shwan Jalal are very experienced and they`re good keepers, and Benji (Buchel) will be coming back from injury as well, so will also be looking to challenge for a place. Every day I will be fighting for the number one spot.’
